Our moms didn’t think about us while they went shopping for silk stockings. When they had a night out with a handsome guy, they thought about us if the babysitter seemed like a possible hazard. There were all kinds of ways our moms had their own lives that were a secret to us.
But, Mom held us when we felt crummy. She told us we were smarter than the bully. She baked, even if it was from a Pillsbury mix. She got really mad at people when they said bad things about us.
And, maybe sometimes she played on the sand, and for that small space of time, forgot about kids and spouses and money and anything but that delicate dance of freedom and love.
Thank you for choosing us, all you moms, to watch you weave your dreams.
